Kurt takes one final twirl, inspecting himself in the mirror.
The suit is perfect, and so is his hair. The shoes look splendid, his tie is gorgeous and his choice of shirt is flawless. The whole outfit is immaculately put together and even Kurt’s critical eye can find no apparent fault with it.
Why then, does he not feel more pleased?

Author’s Note: Sequel to Gateway. (I’m actually thinking of making this a ‘verse.)November twenty-ninth is marks a year from when Sebastian and Kurt first started dating. They were going to go do something special — have a road trip or travel somewhere special. Now that all seems meaningless to Sebastian.
The day before is Thanksgiving, and Burt and Carole invite his family over for dinner. Everyone speaks at a hushed whisper, and their eyes keep on glancing over to Sebastian as if they expect him to say something. Finn tries talking to him several times, and Sebastian replies in one or two words.
When he leaves, Carole pulls him into a tight hug and holds him to her chest. Sebastian has to force the tears back as she repeats, “Sebastian, I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry,” over and over into his ear.
